Besides its innate aesthetic value, this film is notable for an early featured role for the great Peter Graves, who died about a month prior to me writing this review. Mr. Graves' performance here is certainly not Oscar-worthy, but if one imagines the circumstances under which this film was undoubtedly made, he acquits himself well.
Another noteworthy thing: this film features a storyline in which alien space travelers abduct a USAF pilot and perform mysterious and creepy surgery on him, leaving him with a strange scar and the gap in his memory that ufologists call 'missing time.' Missing time and secret alien medical procedures have become a cliché of modern UFO mythology, but this is the earliest film I have seen to feature these concepts.
The aliens are bug-eyed creatures who dress in outfits of uncanny similarity to the costume worn by 1930's newspaper comic strip hero 'The Phantom.' Their base of operations is a typical low-budget movie cave of the type favored by the villains in Republic chapter-plays, and their equipment looks mostly like various disemboweled floor-model radios and old DuMont TV sets. Despite the limitations, the scenes containing these elements are the most effective in the film.
Lovers of old-school, low-budget scifi and horror will likely enjoy this film, although perhaps not to the degree I did. Nonetheless, it is certainly worth a look if are the right type of aficionado.

This was a cheaply based low budget thriller with no thrills where Graves has been monitoring atomic bomb tests out in the New Mexico desert by air. Some nasty old aliens are out in the caverns laying plans for a billion of their people to come take over the earth from the folks who live here now. I won't say more, but it involves a scheme of creating monsters who will destroy mankind and then the aliens will destroy the monsters without spilling too much human blood.
The miracle here is that Peter Graves as an actor had a career after some of the films he appeared in back in his salad days. This is one great example of what he survived.
Stock footage from other films, cheap black and white photography, imbecilic plot. Peter Graves looks stoically earnest throughout though. I guess that is a tribute to his talent.

hybrid of Marty Feldman and Eddy Cantor. They are on earth, setting up an environment for their doomed species. Graves has been brainwashed and sent on his way to bring secrets back to the aliens. If it weren't so dull, it would be genuinely funny. There is a scene where Graves runs through a series of tunnels for 10 minutes, getting nowhere. No one believes him when he tells the truth under sodium pentathol. For some reason these creatures have felt the need to tell their emissary every secret of their existence. This is a fatal flaw which inevitably gets so many villains in trouble. Pretty silly all the way around.

The next day at the military base where he lives with his wife Ellen, Barbara Bestar, Doug appears in perfect health with only a loss of memory of what happened to him in that plane crash and a deep surgical scar on his chest. Put under observation Doug seems so strange that the military brass, concerned that he may be a foreign spy, send his fingerprints to the FBI offices in Washington D.C to see if he's an impostor. When they come back positive Doug is told to take some time off and stay away from the Atomic testing site which makes him very moody and upset.
One morning looking at the newspaper Doug sees that an Atomic test took place the day before at the Soladed test site, where he crashed at. Later that afternoon Doug sneaks into the office and opens the safe of Dr. Kruger, Frank Gerstel, a physicist who was at the test site and steals top-secret information about the blast.
Driving to the deserted test site that night when Doug is about to place a sheet of paper, with the Atomic blast information written on it, he's grabbed by a civilian security guard. After Doug belts him he takes off in the night and with the police chasing him he crashes his car. Back at the base hospital Doug is injected with Sodium Thiopertal, truth serum. After going into a deep trance Doug tells those in his hospital room what happened to him after he survived the plane crash.
Doug woke up in an underground cavern with these strange looking aliens with huge bug eyes, that look like hard-boiled eggs, operating on him. Doug is told by alien leader that he was killed and that he was brought him back to life. Doug is also told that the aliens need him to get back to his army base and find out when the next Atomic test will be and return that information to them. Doug is also told that they come from a planet called Astron Delta that lost it's ability to sustain life and they are planing to take over the Earth as their next home away from home. The leader also tells Doug that the aliens are also breeding huge insects and reptiles that will devour all life on Earth. After the insects ands reptiles finish the job the aliens will destroy them, with some kind of super-high sonic rays, and use their remains to fertilize the Earth. Thats so that they can live off the vegetation thats produced by them.
Told that if he does his job for the aliens Doug will be sent onto a space station and after everything is achieved by them ,in wiping out the human race, he'll be brought back to Earth and live happily ever after. The last thing Doug can remember is him being told by the head alien to 'Listen and obey you will obtain the data and bring it to the stone' like what he did earlier at the Atomic bomb site.
When Doug awakes from his trance the military men in the room think that he's cuckoo and tell him to take a long vacation. Doug instead tells them to detonate an Atomic Bomb as soon as possible in order to overload the aliens circuits. But the military men tell him to go to back to sleep and that even if they wanted to do what he told them they don't have enough time to do it. Doug later realizes that if he only shut off the power source, the local power plant, that the aliens are tapping into to get their power for just ten seconds it would cause their resistors to short-out. This would have their whole underground base would go up in a nuclear explosion.
Running out of the hospital to his car with only a robe and pajamas and slippers Doug drives to the power plant to shut off the power for just a brief while in order to save the world. Holding everyone at bay with a gun that he wrestled away from the pant attendant ,Lester Door, Doug shuts off the juice and in ten seconds the entire alien base goes up in a mushroom cloud.
Doug who was considered insane just a moment ago ends up saving the world as well as the whole human race. Not by following the orders of his superiors but instead the instincts of his mathematical and scientific curiosity.

A nuclear scientist is killed in a plane crash but is revived and then kidnapped by aliens from the planet Astron Delta with ping-pong-ball eyes wearing jogging suits and mittens, who want to take over the world. They choose him because of his knowledge about nuclear testing. When he tries to escape, he encounters giant Spiders, grasshoppers and lizards which the aliens plan to rule the world with. Not surprisingly, when he tells his story to others, no one believes him so he goes to the local power station to cut the electricity for 10 seconds and this blows up the aliens and giant creatures and kills them.
The best thing about this movie are those aliens' eyes which are ping-pong balls. The only face I am familiar with is Peter Graves (It Conquered the World).
This movie is worth watching, especially if you are a fan of 50's sci fi and bad movies. Great fun.

Now, there are some elements in the film, that caused me to laugh, but that was just because of the lack of quality, or just the sheer stupidity of things coming out from the mouths of the actors.
Let's tackle the plot: A-bomb, the great and glorious days of the atom. The military is doing some experiments with THE bomb, when something goes wrong and a survey plane explodes. Everyone thinks, that Dr. Douglas Martin (Peter Graves) is dead, but then he suddenly appears. But he's acting somewhat strangely and there is a huge scar on his chest.
Soon it's discovered that he was hypnotized and open heart operated by the aliens with huge, bulging and quite motionless, yet sometimes in different way looking eyes. Oh and did I mention they are about to conquer Earth by the help of mutated insects and lizards and stuff.
This movie could be a true camp classic, but it's just far too boring for that. Static camera mostly just shoots people talking nonsense about everything possible and the action is very badly portrayed. Direction and the script are non-existing.
'Killers from Space' has small amount of value as a purely bad movie level, but it's not a classic such as the legendary movies of Ed Wood just because the film just is bad bad. Most of the time. But you could watch it for the aliens. They're just so funny looking with their huge eyes and the Phantom rip off suits.

So old Daneb-Tala shows Miles, or Doug, some gigantic reptiles and insects of the hair-lice variety---these are really, really big mothers---and the main and only item produced on Astro Delta must be these monsters because they have a bunch of them. A really, really big bunch of these really, really big monsters. But they need a bunch as their master plan to take over Earth is to have these monsters traveling around and about and killing off all the earthmen. Daneb-Tala does not mention women, so one can only shudder at the thought of what the Astronians have in mind for them. And Daneb-Tala seems to be unaware of the danger that an American housewife with a can of Flit and a flyswatter---albeit a really, really big flyswatter--- could pose for his master plan.
And Daveb-Tala informs Doug that oh-by-the-way you were killed in the plane crash but us Astrolians, with skill, knowledge and instruments beyond the current knowledge of man---and he doesn't even capitalize man, just to show we ain't much in the bulb-eyes of the Astrolians. But they are going to use Doug as their unwilling-but-helpless slave in supplying the Astrolians with top-secret atomic-energy information. Gee, they can bring a dead guy back to life but can't split an atom?
Doug can't tell what he has seen, heard and been through, for fear of being locked up in a Nervous Place, but the Army slams him with a needle full of truth serum and hears his story. They of course don't believe it---we must of overdosed him---and proceed to prepare Nervous Place papers on him, but government red tape being what government red tape is allows Doug to get away. And Doug has a plan of his own. He has learned that the Astrolians are all holed up in caves scattered all over California, and their diet is an all-electric one and if they don't have electricity they will blow up. They are stealing it naturally because even Astronians couldn't afford to pay California electricity bills. And, as soon as Cable TV came available, they intended to steal it also. So Doug plans to pull the one switch that supplies all of California with electricity.
Not wishing to write a 'spoiler', even for a movie that a spoiler would be a surprise for any viewer with an I.Q. of anything over 29, the ending will not be given away here.
But since California has gone to rolling-blackouts, has anyone seen any Astrolians anywhere in the state.Carmel, O.J. Simpson houseguests and the Golden Globe Awards show excepted.

Dr. Martin is given truth-serum in the Army hospital and tells all about his rescue, the aliens, and their plan to conquer the world. No one but the doctor, who trusts in truth-serum, can believe his fantastic tale, so it is left to Dr. Martin to prevent the holocaust-to-come. In the finale, military brass attempt to stop him from cutting the local power supply, a tactic which will short-circuit the machinery of the 'killers from space' and destroy it. Military brass are afraid that by cutting the power supply, Dr. Martin will cause 'untold damage for miles around.' But the unstoppable Dr. Martin, dressed in a patient's pajamas and a bathrobe, escapes his confinement in the hospital and breaks into the local generating plant, with the other players in this drama following closely on his heels. Dr. Martin manages to cut the power, darkness falls upon the room, and the underground aliens go up in a hydrogen-bomb explosion, which all view from a window in the power plant. Happy day!

Not bad enough to go down in the annals of the worst movies ever made, but it comes close. Part of the 'problem' from that perspective is that Peter Graves is pretty good in the lead, and the special effects aren't as horrific as the Ed Wood movies. There are also some mainstays of B and C movies of the Fifties in supporting roles, such as my longtime favorite Frank Gerstle. I always wanted to grow up to be like Frank Gerstle but unfortunately never succeeded. Sure, we get to see some wild beasts that are obviously running on a film screen, but that is OK. It's all good fun.

Superficially, this has a lot going against it. It is more or less the same story Depp did in 'Astronaut's Wife.' It has atomic explosions, some mysterious use of electricity (as if that could be a mystery) by some aliens (white guys in mime suits with buggy eyes) who are bent on taking over the world. Theirs is broken, you see.
They're going to do this by loosing giant insects and reptiles on us, so we get to see that cheesy effect too.
My favorite: all these kinds of movies (which we see on a screen) feature a screen that the aliens use to see us. Its a necessary element of self-reference that goes as far back as the first movies.
Anyway, we have all these loose parts thrown on the floor in typical b-movie fashion. Here's the one minor pleasure: our scientist has been coopted by the aliens. Hypnotised, what else? Er, there's also some chest surgery that is never fully explained.
Through drugs, he breaks the spell and sets about warning the others, but some don't take him seriously. We know surely that there are other 'pod people' whose real identity will be revealed and countered in due time. This is telegraphed several times, using the closeup of the eyes bit, as well as some obstructionist behavior.
(There's also a hint that our hero's wife could be having an affair or somehow be involved with the main suspect in this regard.) This expectation of finding other enemies continues to the very end.
Guess what? No other compromised scientists. Fooled me.
Cinefiles may notice that the operation scene where three aliens are working on Peter Graves' heart is taken from Orson Welles' Macbeth. The witches scene.

Doug was in an airplane when things happened and he awoke with the idea of getting information to someone - that someone is aliens! The people that know Doug knows that something is wrong with him. Doug ends up in a hospital with doctors putting him under hypnosis and giving him a drug that will block out imaginary things (sorta a truth serum) and while under he tells them the fascinating story of the alien abduction. When Doug awakens he decides he has to save planet Earth from those evil aliens.
Again, not a great film but fun if you like the older Sci-Fi Horror B-films! 6/10

Everybody's flummoxed. Our hero then starts doing weird things, like getting all jazzed up about the next A-bomb nest, and trying to steal secrets to put under a rock in the desert (!). He also sees these weird eyes floating about. But why? Only a shot of good old commie confessor will do the trick.
This one has it all, if 'all' means aliens with ping-pong ball eyes and weird eyebrows, giant insects and snakes, and about as much exposition from a bad guy as you can get in a film. Just as well, as the aliens disappear for the rest of the film (but there's still plenty of action).
Although the make up on the bad guys is hilarious, I didn't particularly see this is a 'bad' movie, just a nice time capsule before the horrors of Chernobyl sullied the good name of nuclear technology. It doesn't last long either, so that always helps.

The interesting thing about this movie is how the whole Alien Abduction Mythology was laid out in 1953, before the first reports of Grays.
1) The aliens blot out the memory of the kidnap victim, leaving him with 'Missing time'.
2) They perform surgical procedures on him.
3) They are terribly concerned with nuclear tests.
4) They show him their home planet, which of course, is dying.
In short, all the things that alien abductees, starting with Betty and Barney Hill, have been reporting since the 1960's. This is all really kind of interesting, but it still isn't a very good film.

Peter Graves is a scientist who, during an atomic experiment, crashes in his plane and (presumably) dies. But wait! He's at the base the next day! But what's that horrid mark on his chest? And why does he want to know so much about the atomic tests all the sudden? Could it be that aliens are controlling him to find tests so they can breed giant monsters to destroy the earth? Naw, it couldn't be . . .
In relation to my last review, 'Invaders from Mars', 'Killers from Space' is the exact opposite of the former: it's dead serious. Sometimes it can get on your nerves. But it has its moments. The plot of Peter sneaking around and spying on people seems familiar (Perhaps the producers of Mission: Impossible saw this?). I've heard this one referred to as Sci-fi noir: there's a big focus on eyes in this movie (You'll find out why later.). But the special effects take the cake, what with all the flying saucers and Peter Graves running through the 'Cave of Monsters' (Really just a documentary of insects and lizards in their natural habitat. It does seem familiar as well to have Mr. Graves running from a grasshopper . . .) Anyway, the aliens are merely guys in jumpsuits with bulging eyes. Marty Feldman is NOT a conspiracy, folks. Now, let's get on with the actors in this drama. Well, we all know Mr. Nazi clone is a good actor, but the others give fairly decent acting. Frank Gerstle might be best remembered as the scientist from 'The Atomic Brain', but Barbara Bestay looks like a cross between Elizabeth Taylor and Dilbert's boss. And the film ends in a generating plant, with Peter Graves being chased around in his underwear by what looks like Coleman Francis (Don't ask.)
In short, if MST3K had made just ONE more episode, this would've been it. And now you have a basic idea of this film. Good night!

It is an Underground Super low budget sci-fi movie from the 50's, but isn't that great? I love B-Movies and This is the perfect sample of a B-Movie.
The First Time I Saw It was at 6:00am and I was kind of Tired, The Movie Had an Hypnotizing Impact On me that made me Like it.

After watching this I really tried to think of a worse movie. Maybe 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' could match it. I don't know, as I saw that one too long ago to directly compare the two. But even cult classic turkeys like 'Killer Shrews' and 'Big Meat Eater' are better than this stinker. At least they're sorta funny. This one just stumbles along like a lobotomized ape, with endless shots of Peter Graves clutching his head and looking confused.
If you want to see just how bad a movie can be, this is the one to watch. Otherwise, stay away!

The premise is standard 1950s subliminal anti-communism fare; aliens (Reds) plan to take over earth (USA) using a diabolical and disgusting plan (world domination).in this case giant bugs they've bred deep inside the mountains will be released to gobble up earth's inhabitants. (This sounds familiar to the story line of THEM, also released in 1954).
But I liked the way the movie used a believable approach to the plot. A pilot/scientist is in a mysterious plane crash then wakes up with a memory loss and unexplainable chest scars (from surgery performed by the baddies while he was out). He starts experiences recurring nightmares wherein the bug eyed aliens appear. This is quite plausible and keeps up the film's suspense.
Peter Graves is a very convincing actor so whether he's playing a sergeant in an Oscar winning movie about a POW camp (Stalag 17), or running around in a sci-fi flick, he's still very good and lends credibility to whatever vehicle he's in.
While the movie's plot and ending are predictable, Killers from Space is fast paced escapism. Fun to watch on a Saturday night.

Graves is doctor Martin who gets killed in a plane-accident. He is revived by some huge-eyed aliens who want him to steal vital information concerning nuclear tests. When he tells his story nobody believes dr. Martin (as you would expect) so he goes out himself (in his pyamas) to shut off the power to their secret underground settlement (sounds pretty lame, huh?).
The aliens are pretty cool but there are way better comparable movies from that time than this one, so skip it! 2/10.

Thanks in part to a steady dose of weekend Sci Fi Channel marathons, horror movies featuring giant animals -- snakes, sharks, rats, insects, mollusks -- have gotten a bad name. For the most part, the reputation might be deserved, but there are a select few that are actually worth a watch -- and maybe even a listen. Note: this list sticks to large REAL animals; thus, no Godzilla villains or mythical creatures.
It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955)
Full of hammy acting and ridiculous melodrama, It Came From Beneath the Sea makes the list for only two reasons: Ray. Harryhausen. The legendary stop-motion animation wiz provided the special effects in this early film that helped establish his name before he went on to Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, One Million Years B.C., Mysterious Island, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans. The imagery of 'it' -- a giant squid -- clinging onto the Golden Gate Bridge and later using its tentacle to crush people on a San Francisco street have become iconic in the realm of mega-creature features.
Ticks (1993)
With its story of juvenile delinquents on a camping retreat fending off softball-sized ticks bred from a marijuana farmer's secret growth serum, Ticks brings new meaning to the word 'camp.' How can you not love a movie with Alfonso 'Carlton Banks' Ribeiro playing a Zubaz-clad 'aggressive dysfunctional' inner-city kid? A young Seth Green stars, probably because he's the only person they could find capable of being intimidated by Ribeiro.

Empire of the Ants (1977)
Bert I. Gordon has to make an appearance on this list, having cornered the market on cheesy giant animal/plant/mineral movies with entries like The Amazing Colossal Man, Earth vs. the Spider, Beginning of the End and Food of the Gods. Though made in the '70s, Empire is a remnant of the 1950s Cold War-era movies about giant beasts spawned by radioactivity. This time around, Cadillac-sized ants that, for some reason, scream like little girls sneak up on a group of land investors in the Florida swamplands. If you fast-forward past the soap opera antics of the first half hour, it's a fun film, from the hysterical overacting to the ridiculous psychic plot twist to the fact that Joan Collins is pretty much left to die at that end of the movie.
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004)
The first two Anaconda films provided solid popcorn entertainment value (No comment on the David Hasselhoff-led third.), but I give the nod to Anacondas for more snakes, more mayhem and less of Eric Stoltz being incapacitated for two hours. In this sequel, snakes in a Borneo jungle grow to an immense size because they feed on the Blood Orchid which lengthens their lives. Of course, in real life, these elderly snakes would be toothless with thick glasses and MedicAlert bracelets, but such is the magic of Hollywood.
Mosquito (1995)
What happens when mosquitoes feed on alien carcasses? A crappy movie; that's what! Bad action movie dialogue, awful acting, a corny sense of humor and outdated stop-motion animation combine for a campy good time, thanks to a nice level of gore, some frantic action sequences and the hilarious appearance of the rubber mosquito puppets. Plus, you get to see Gunnar Hansen (the original Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) handle a chainsaw one more time. Director Gary Jones might just be the modern Bert I. Gordon, scoring three campy films on this list.
Mimic (1997)
Mimic has the only sorta-kinda made-up creature on this list: a hybrid of a termite and a mantis that's bred to kill cockroaches that are spreading a child-killing disease throughout New York. Unfortunately, as happens so often in these movies, the fruits of science veer out of control, and the insects grow to six feet tall and begin feeding on humans. How? Pseudoscience! Director Guillermo Del Toro injects style into the formula, despite relying on the cliché of the poor black guy sacrificing himself to save the stars.
Tarantula (1955)
A bit overshadowed by contemporary films like Them! and the Bert I. Gordon and Ray Harryhausen movies, Tarantula more than holds its own. The story concerns a scientist whose experimental growth formula unleashes a spider that grows to mammoth proportions. Unlike the stop-motion of It Came From Beneath the Sea and the large models of Them!, Tarantula uses images of a real-life spider projected to the size of a small mountain -- or a really big molehill. The effect is creepier than its contemporaries, with 3-D angles that have the spider coming right at the screen, moving forward instead of the horizontal movements favored by so many films of this ilk. Plus, it's so darn BIG.
Rogue (2008)
Despite taking itself too seriously (It's from the guy who directed Wolf Creek, after all.) and featuring annoying characters who seem to want to get eaten, this Australian flick boasts possibly the most realistic fake crocodile ever filmed and has a classic climactic man-versus-beast battle.
Razorback (1984)
Another Aussie tale, this one with a giant boar. There's not enough pig action in this tale of an American searching for his missing wife in the Australian Outback, but the stylish direction from Russell Mulcahy (Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction) and the dusty Outback setting give it a Mad Max-ish flair.
Eight Legged Freaks (2002)
I might admit some bias towards spider movies because those critters creep me out more than any snake or rat ever will. That said, Eight Legged Freaks is particularly effective because of excellent special effects that make a giant spider invasion seem like a real possibility. The humor in this self-conscious monster movie parody lightens the mood enough to prevent any nightmares, though. Whew.
Crocodile 2: Death Swamp (2002)
The second Gary Jones film on the list, Death Swamp, also known as Crocodile 2: Death Roll -- whatever that means -- is an unrelated sequel to a low point in Tobe Hooper's career: the movie Crocodile. This film is corny (The heroine's treasured keepsake is a lighter engraved with the words 'You light up my life.') but features solid acting and plenty of action, with bank robberies, explosions, shoot-outs, airplane and helicopter crashes and, of course, croc munching. In the film, rejects from Die Hard rob a bank, then hijack a plane on its way to Acapulco. However, bad weather causes it to crash into swamplands inhabited by a monster crocodile. Martin 'Sweep the Leg' Kove's presence is icing on the cake.
Lake Placid (1999)
Written with a deft comedic touch, Lake Placid delivers more on the humor end than on the horror end. The tale of a 30-foot Asian crocodile that somehow finds its way to a rural Maine lake features great comic turns by Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt and particularly Betty White as the foul-mouthed local widow who treats the crocodile as a pet.
Spiders (2000)
In Gary Jones' magnum opus, an experiment to mix spider and alien DNA (Does it matter why?) results in a mutant spider being let loose in a government facility, killing everyone in its path. Spiders has 'cult classic' written all over it, from the gooey special effects of gore guru Robert Kurtzman (From Dusk Till Dawn, Army of Darkness, Cabin Fever, Scream) to the cheesy spirit of '50s monster flicks to wonderfully awful lines like 'That spider is a killing machine!' and 'My name is John Murphy, of the United States government.' As cheap as it is, though, it's remarkably large in spectacle, featuring a space shuttle, a helicopter, car crashes, bazookas, explosions and a rampaging 50-foot spider trampling people in downtown Los Angeles.
Frankenfish (2004)
From the director of Spawn comes this direct-to-video creature feature about genetically engineered, amphibious snakehead fish (meaning they can walk on land) that escape from a shipwreck and begin terrorizing a Louisiana swamp. Fun, gory and thrilling with strong acting and direction, it's one of the few giant animal films airing on the Sci Fi Channel that actually delivers non-ironic thrills.
Alligator (1980)
The urban legend of the parents who flush the kid's pet alligator down the toilet, only to have it grow to full size in the sewer, comes to life in this early '80s hit. In the film, the gator's enormous size is explained as the result of a pharmaceutical company's hormone experimentation on stray dogs, whose carcasses are dumped into the sewer and eaten by the alligator. Clever use of camera tricks and miniatures make for a fairly realistic animal attack experience, given the time period. You have to have a perverse admiration for a movie willing to show an alligator eat a child in a swimming pool.
Them! (1954)
The cream of the crop of 1950s radiation-spawned monster movies, Them! is unusually well-acted and intelligent for a movie about giant, man-eating ants. In fact, the rampaging insects are almost an afterthought to the detailed plot about Army scientists studying ant tendencies, strategizing and locating a couple of lost children. It's a bit like Law & Order: Special Insects UnitSamsung intelli studio mac download. , even ending with a sobering moral about the repercussions of living in the Atomic Age.
Prophecy (1979)
Renowned director John Frankenheimer (The Manchurian Candidate) helmed this tale of an EPA worker conducting a study on the environmental impact of a paper mill in the Maine wilderness. It turns out that the factory is dumping pollutants into the river, poisoning the fish and causing anything that eats them to become deformed and super-sized. It's not such a big deal when they find poodle-sized tadpoles, but a gigantic mutant bear with a chip on its shoulder causes some problems. The somber, eco-conscious first two-thirds of the movie gives way to a wild and wooly final third featuring a guy in a bear suit running around on his hind legs, shot at elongated angles like a surreal, backwoods Godzilla.
The Fly (1986)
Is this cheating? So be it. It's hard enough coming up with 20 giant animal movies worth watching without trying to filter through the specifics of whether or not this fits neatly into the category. I mean, Jeff Goldblum does turn into a giant fly by the end -- albeit only for the last five minutes. Plus, you get to see his acidic projectile vomit.
King Kong (1933)
King Kong was the standard for giant animal movies for several decades -- and to some extent, it still is. The epic story of a giant ape who falls for a blond 'beauty' -- and pays the price -- still manages to entertain today, albeit more in an adventure sort of way than in a horror sort of way.
